Beauty: A Black Perspective by Nakedi Ribane

This book not only sheds light into the black beauty industry, it also highlights the kind of challenges black women faced during the apartheid years.  The narrative is about the beauty industry and its dynamics yet one can pick out the social and political issues of that time.

It is one of those books that helps a non-South African to come to an understanding of how people think and act depending on the  environment they grew up in. She particularly makes an interesting reference to  the song by Dr Victor & the Rasta Rebels  Tswang Tswang Tswang that is popular during wedding ceremonies.

Nakedi Ribane author is an actress, fashion and beauty editor and a business woman.
